{"id":4196,"date":"2026-05-12T10:33:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T07:33:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/?p=4196"},"modified":"2026-05-12T14:36:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T11:36:07","slug":"cetri-biophot-projects-were-selected-for-the-deep-tech-startup-pitch-competition-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/en\/cetri-biophot-projekti-izcinijusi-iespeju-uzstaties-deep-tech-startup-pitch-competition-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Four \u201cBioPhoT\u201d projects have won the opportunity to present at the \u201cDeep Tech Startup Pitch Competition 2026\u201d.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>On May 14 and 15, four \u201cBioPhoT\u201d projects will represent the Latvian science and innovation ecosystem internationally at the leading deep tech conference in Northern Europe. <a href=\"https:\/\/deeptechatelier.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/deeptechatelier.com\/\">\u201cDeep Tech Atelier 2026\u201d<\/a> in the international startup pitch competition \u201cDeep Tech Startup Pitch Competition 2026\u201d.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe \u201cDeep Tech Startup Pitch Competition\u201d is intended for early-stage deep tech startups from around the world in sectors such as medical technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, defense technology, energy, materials science, and more. To participate in the competition, teams had to meet specific quality criteria \u2013 combining scientific and business expertise, demonstrating high internationalization growth potential for projects, and having at least a laboratory-level prototype developed, \u201d says <strong>\u201cBioPhoT\u201d Innovation Project Atlas, Implementation, Monitoring, and Sustainability Manager Andris Baumanis<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasizes that winning a spot in the competition alongside 33 other international projects is crucial for Latvian researchers to enhance their international recognition, as well as a valuable opportunity to present their technological solutions to international investors, industry leaders, and innovation experts, fostering collaborations and attracting implementation partners for projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the project <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/en\/project\/available-pedigree-validation-for-dog-therapy-at-an-affordable-price-depcell\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/project\/pieejamas-skirosanas-validesana-cilmes-sunu-terapijai-par-pienemamu-cenu-depcell\/\">\u201cSorting validation available for stem cell therapy at an affordable price (DEPCELL)\u201d<\/a><\/strong> R\u012bgas Tehnisk\u0101s universit\u0101tes zin\u0101tnieku komanda, izmantojot modernu \u0161\u016bnu atlasi un m\u0101ksl\u012bg\u0101 intelekta risin\u0101jumus kvalit\u0101tes kontrolei,&nbsp; att\u012bsta inovat\u012bvas \u0161\u016bnu terapiju tehnolo\u0123ijas. T\u0101s n\u0101kotn\u0113 var nodro\u0161in\u0101t dro\u0161\u0101kas, efekt\u012bv\u0101kas un pieejam\u0101kas \u0101rst\u0113\u0161anas iesp\u0113jas pacientiem ar psori\u0101zi, reimato\u012bdo artr\u012btu un Krona slim\u012bbu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>University of Latvia team in the project <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/en\/project\/local-thermoelectric-generators-for-microelectronics-and-sensors\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/project\/lokanie-termoelektriskie-generatori-pasbarojosai-mikroelektronikai-un-sensoriem\/\">\u201cThermoelectric generators for self-powered microelectronics and sensors (TEPOWER)\u201d<\/a><\/strong> Develop new generation wearable device technology capable of operating using human body heat, thereby reducing dependence on batteries and their associated waste. The project promotes more convenient, longer-lasting, and environmentally friendly health and environmental monitoring devices for public accessibility.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In turn, in the project <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/en\/project\/optical-sensor-output-for-freshwave-smart-packs-of-fresh-jurassic-welsh\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/project\/optiska-sensora-izstrade-svaigu-juras-velsu-viedajiem-iepakojumiem-freshwave\/\">\u201cDevelopment of an optical sensor for smart packaging of fresh seafood \u2013 FRESHWAVE\u201d<\/a><\/strong> Researchers at the University of Latvia are developing an easy-to-use sensor that allows for quick and accurate determination of seafood freshness without opening the packaging. This will help to detect product spoilage in a timely manner, improve food safety, and reduce the risk of consumers purchasing or consuming substandard products. At the same time, the technology will promote less food waste and more efficient resource utilization throughout the entire food supply chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry Project <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/en\/project\/osteowood-rubbed-wood-a-new-generation-solution-for-bone-fixation-a-sustainable-path-from-mesh-to-functional-implants\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/biophot.lv\/project\/osteowood-berza-koksnes-jaunas-paaudzes-risinajums-kaulu-fiksacijai-ilgtspejigs-cels-no-meza-lidz-funkcionaliem-implantiem\/\">\u201cNew generation birch wood solution for bone fixation \u2013 a sustainable path from forest to functional implants (OsteoWood)\u201d<\/a><\/strong> focuses on developing new materials made from birch wood for bone fixation as an alternative to metal implants for patients who experience allergies or inflammation from them. This solution will provide safer and more gentle treatment options while using sustainable and environmentally friendly materials in medicine.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the semi-finals of the competition, participants will present their solutions in a three-minute presentation, followed by jury questions and a discussion with international experts. In the finals, the most promising deep tech solutions with the highest commercialization and investment attraction potential will be selected and presented on the main \u201cDeep Tech Atelier 2026\u201d stage.
