“Latvia in Science”: Drone developed in Latvia moves underwater, in grain, and in snow

New Radio SWH TV In the first episode of the program “Latvia in Science,” Gustavs Terzens meets with Mārcis Eimanis, an engineer from Riga Technical University, and Andris Baumanis, head of selection and implementation of innovations at “BioPhoT.”.

In the center of the conversation M. Eimanis's drone “DURBIS”, supported by the “BioPhoT” platform. It is an unusual technology developed in Latvia that can move underwater, in grain, snow, and other loose environments. The idea for this solution arose from studying the movement of bacteria in liquids, but its development required extensive work, calculations, tests, and prototype creation.

The episode discusses how a scientific idea is transformed into a real product, the potential applications of “DURBJA” in infrastructure inspections, grain container monitoring, rescue operations, and the defense sector, as well as how “BioPhoT” helps Latvian scientific innovations get closer to the market, investors, and industry partners.

In the show, also about deep tech innovation challenges, intellectual property protection, the customer's importance in technology validation, and the potential of Latvian science in the global market.

The program “Latvia in Science” will be broadcast every Thursday at 8:00 PM on Radio SWH TV starting May 28, with a repeat on Sundays at 3:00 PM.
