Description
Cyber security systems are susceptible to electromagnetic interference, which can cause data loss or damage equipment. There is currently a lack of effective, sustainable protective materials. The project is developing new EMI protective coatings that ensure stable and reliable operation of devices. For society, this means more reliable cyber security solutions and a safer digital environment.
Achievable results
The project develops new EMI protection coatings to ensure stable and reliable operation of the devices. Increasing the TRL (Technology Readiness Level) of the technology from TRL3 to TRL4, which implies the development of a laboratory-scale prototype (demonstrating the functions and capabilities of the technology in a controlled environment), in the form of a new material that is lightweight, flexible (performs like a multi-layered film) and can absorb (suppress) electromagnetic radiation, both from telecommunication signals and from various electromagnetic “noises” generated by various electrical devices. The material will also be able to suppress targeted EM interference from an adversary or from an enemy.
Benefit
The electromagnetic wave absorption technology developed as a result of the project will contribute to the protection of critical infrastructure (data centres, hospitals, communication systems) and electronic equipment against electromagnetic interference, including targeted interference. The lightweight and flexible properties of the material will allow it to be effectively integrated into various telecommunications and electronics systems, improving their electromagnetic compatibility and safety. The technology strengthens Latvia's defence capabilities in the field of electronic countermeasures and forms the basis for the development of internationally competitive solutions in both the civil and defence sectors, promoting the potential for high-tech exports and the creation of new science-intensive enterprises.
