“BioPhoT project: researchers look for new solutions to treat life-threatening fungal infections

Researchers at the Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis are looking for new solutions to treat life-threatening fungal infections. If a person's immunity is very weak, pathogenic fungi can move from mucous membranes into the blood and cause a systemic infection, or candidemia, which can affect the heart, kidneys, liver or brain. Researchers hope to find a new drug within 10 years that will help combat this problem more effectively.
