Description
The project aims at the development and validation of a non-contact, marker-free optical technology for early phenotypic antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AJT) in solid media. It combines laser speckle imaging, data processing, CMOS and event-based data acquisition to monitor bacterial activity in agar where antibiotics have been previously added. To reach technology readiness level TRL5, the prototype will be tested in both laboratory and clinical settings using appropriate bacterial species and comparing the results with EUCAST standards. Market research and end-user feedback will guide development to ensure practical applicability. This will result in a functional prototype that will be suitable for AJT and potentially commercialisable for use in diagnostic laboratories. The project will involve experienced experts in microbiology, biophotonics, electronics and information technology, as well as young scientists and students from the University of Latvia.
Achievable results
The result will be a functional prototype that will be suitable for AJT and potentially commercialised for use in diagnostic laboratories.
