RTU scientists and engineers develop and patent device to fight antimicrobial resistance

Antimicrobial resistance - the ability of micro-organisms to survive and even grow in conditions that would normally kill them - is one of the biggest public health threats in the world. Scientists and engineers at Riga Technical University (RTU) in the BioPhoT project B-Shield developed and patented an innovative disinfection device for sinks that prevents the growth of micro-organisms. Designed for use in medical facilities, the device's effectiveness has been tested in a hospital and is being developed in collaboration with medical professionals.
