Ethics and Inclusion
BioPhoT creates a reliable, responsible, and inclusive research and innovation environment. The platform's activities are based on the principles of human rights, safety and well-being, research integrity, sustainability, equality, diversity, and accountability. Ethical considerations are integrated throughout the research and innovation process, based on the responsible research and innovation approach. Special attention is paid to research integrity, the protection of individuals and personal data, the use of artificial intelligence, the prevention of conflicts of interest, environmental impact, as well as diversity, accessibility, and end-user engagement.
In its operations, BioPhoT relies on European and internationally recognized research ethics and integrity principles, including ALLEA. European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.The ethical and inclusion principles, objectives, and governance approach of BioPhoT are defined In the ethics and inclusion strategy (save as .pdf), and Ethics and Inclusion Guidelines (save as .pdfprovides support to project applicants and implementers for evaluating ethics and inclusion issues throughout the project lifecycle.
An Ethics and Conflicts of Interest Working Group operates within the platform, developing documents and providing training and consultations on issues related to research and innovation ethics, integrity, inclusion, and conflicts of interest. In addition, an independent external expert perspective is provided by BioPhoT Ethics Advisory Board. In its current composition, it consists of Council Chair and inclusion expert Agnese Cimdiņa, conflict of interest expert Toni Andreu, and research ethics expert Kadri Simm.
