On October 21, the biomedical and photonics innovation platform “BioPhoT” in cooperation with the Berlin-Brandenburg Photonics Cluster Optec Berlin-Brandenburg (OpTecBB) organized an online collaboration event Online Matchmaking. Nine research teams from the University of Latvia Institute of Solid State Physics, the University of Latvia, and Riga Technical University participated, along with 14 industry representatives from Germany.

OpTecBB e.V. is a competence network for optical technologies and microsystems engineering in the federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg. It is an initiative of companies and research institutions from Berlin and Brandenburg aimed at jointly researching and implementing technologies. The network brings together around 130 members and operates in the fields of photonics and quantum technologies for communications and sensor technology, as well as optical analytics, lighting technology, biophotonics and ophthalmic optics, laser technology, and microsystems engineering.

At the event, Latvian researchers introduced industry representatives to the technology projects developed within the “BioPhoT” platform and their commercialization opportunities, and discussed potential partnerships and project ideas in the fields of optical sensing and diagnostics, advanced materials and coatings, and quantum technologies, nanophotonics, and communications.

Several promising opportunities for cooperation between researchers and enterprises were identified at the event, and the potential for implementing joint projects with German research institutes was evaluated.
