On November 5, Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) will host Innovation Day, which will offer the opportunity to explore entrepreneurial experience, technologies being developed at the university, and practical applications of research results. Five project teams funded by the “BioPhoT” platform, which are developing new solutions in diagnostics and patient condition assessment, will also participate in the science program with presentations.

Participation in the event is free of charge, the working language is Latvian, with simultaneous interpretation into English. Registration for participation takes place on the RSU website.

Programme

From 9:00 to 12:30 in the “Ideas and Business” section, entrepreneurs and innovation experts will share their experience on generating, developing, and bringing ideas to the market. Among the speakers will be the Latvian Startup Association Startin.LV chief executive officer Roberts Alhimionoks, Longevity Catalyst founder and managing partner Lauris Vidzis, Riga TechGirls driver Anna Andersone and the founder of LABRAINS Līga Brūniņa.

Starting from 1:30 PM in the “Science and Innovation” section, researchers will present innovation projects in medicine, dentistry, and sports. Among them will be five projects funded within the framework of the “BioPhoT” platform:

  • “OsteoXplore” – a solution that uses artificial intelligence for the analysis of dental 3D X-ray images to help assess the risk of osteoporosis in a timely manner. The project will be presented by Anda Slaidiņa.
  • “SPERMFREE” – Development of a non-invasive diagnostic approach for evaluating severe male infertility by analyzing cell-free DNA in semen samples. The aim is to reduce the need for invasive testicular biopsy. The project will be presented by Marija Lazovska.
  • “O3MS” – development of optical technology for microcirculation assessment in septic shock patients to help physicians evaluate tissue perfusion and the patient's condition. The project will be presented Aleksejs Zolotarjovs.
  • “U-TEST” - research on urine biomarkers for the diagnosis of neonatal sepsis, developing an approach that could reduce the need for repeated blood sampling in the future. The project will be presented Kristaps Kļaviņš.
  • “LiqBio-BC” – development of a urine biomarker-based approach for bladder cancer diagnosis to offer less invasive examination options in the future. The project will be presented by Zanda Daneberg.

The presentations will provide an opportunity to explore solutions in their development stage, ask questions to researchers, and discuss cooperation opportunities. The event will also honor RSU research teams for their contribution to promoting innovation.
