On October 29, the second annual conference of the biomedical and photonics innovation platform “BioPhoT” took place at the Academic Centre of the University of Latvia (LU) House of Science, gathering more than 300 industry representatives, researchers, entrepreneurs, innovators, and other enthusiasts.
Since 2025, within the framework of “BioPhoT”, 66 Latvian innovation projects are being developed in the fields of biomedicine and pharmacy, photonics and smart materials, engineering, and medical technologies. The conference program paid special attention to the results achieved so far by the supported projects, current challenges, and the next steps for development.
During the panel discussions, industry experts and project representatives discussed cooperation opportunities, prerequisites for innovation development, and the path from a scientific idea to a practically usable and commercializable product. Meanwhile, brief project presentations provided an opportunity to learn about diverse solutions and their potential contribution to the development of healthcare, technology, and other sectors.
An essential part of the conference was the exhibition of innovation prototypes, which showcased around 40 prototypes created within the framework of platform projects in one place. The exhibition provided visitors with the opportunity to get a closer look at the practical results of research, evaluate the diversity of the developed technologies, and see firsthand the potential of the solutions created by Latvian scientists and innovators. The long-term goal of the BioPhoT platform is to develop technologies to the commercialization phase by 2032.
