It is important for every researcher to understand how to protect their intellectual property and to be aware of how to assess the patentability of an invention, which can be an important step towards commercialising an idea. Researchers are therefore invited to participate in the seminar-workshop "Interpreting Patent Information", which will provide basic knowledge and practical information on the patenting process.
The seminar will cover three key aspects:
Purposes of a patent information searchincluding a discretion analysis and an assessment of the patentability of the invention.
Accessing patent databasesdemonstrating how to carry out patent searches.
Analysis of patent documentsto understand their validity and scope of protection.
Researchers planning to submit projects to the Platform are particularly encouraged to Biomedical and photonics research platforms for innovative products (BioPhoT) but the event is also open to a wider audience - researchers, students and others interested in learning more about IP protection issues.
