Multifunctional drone with dual-helical propulsion (DURBIS)

Description

DURBIS (Double Underwater Rotating BI-helical System) is a biomimetic autonomous drone with a unique double-helical, counter-rotating hull propulsion, inspired by bacterial flagella. It integrates AUV and land drone technologies, enabling efficient movement in water, pipes, sand, snow, and other granular materials where traditional solutions cannot operate.

The project develops the technology from TRL-4 to TRL-5, improving the control system and adapting it to the primary dual-use segment (defense and industrial inspection). The technology has broad potential in defense, pipeline inspection, underwater research, agriculture, and even medicine.

The Achievable Results

• Clearly identify the primary application and customer segment (defense and industrial inspection) within 6 months.
Improve and adapt the control system (electronics and software) according to customer requirements.
• Adapt the existing TRL-4 prototype and validate it under real-world conditions (achieving TRL-5).
• Prepare for commercialization (IP protection, spin-off company establishment, applications for further funding).

The Anticipated Benefit

The project develops a dual-use solution that enhances national security by providing covert and versatile reconnaissance/monitoring in environments where human access is difficult (water, sand, snow). In the industrial sector, it improves the safety and efficiency of infrastructure monitoring (pipelines, grain silos), reducing risks and costs. In the long term, the technology can evolve to a micro-scale for medical applications (targeted drug delivery).
