On Researcher's Night 2026, on September 25 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, visitors are invited to take part in the “BioPhoT” orienteering game and discover innovations developed by Latvian scientists in the fields of biomedicine, photonics, materials science, energy, and others. Projects developed within the framework of the innovation platform will be available to explore at “BioPhoT” partner institutions throughout Riga.
“BioPhoT” invites Researchers' Night visitors to take the opportunity not only to learn more about Latvian science, but also to get involved themselves in an engaging cognitive game and discover how research shapes our future!
Participants of the orienteering game will be able to visit “BioPhoT” researcher booths at Latvia's leading scientific institutions, meet researchers, and find out what future changes “BioPhoT” projects are already developing today. Interested individuals will be able to receive game cards at the “BioPhoT” booths. At the University of Latvia 3 Jelgavas Street, Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia 8 Kengaraga Street and At Riga Technical University Paula Valdena ielā 3, but project team visitors will also be welcomed at Riga Stradiņš University Anniņmuižas Boulevard 26a, Institute of Electronics and Computer Science 14 Dzērbenes Street, Latvian State Institute of Wood Chemistry Dzērbenes Street 27 and At the National Research and Innovation Institute 1-1 Ratsupites Street.
For each project visit, participants will receive a special mark on their game card. By filling out at least five game fields, it will be possible to receive a surprise prize at one of the “BioPhoT” booths.
The game will feature projects that offer solutions in healthcare, diagnostics, material development, radiation protection, microelectronics, energy, and environmental technologies. Visitors will be able to explore, for example, a device for rapid malaria detection, a white laser endoscopy system, flexible thermoelectric generators, bone regeneration materials, carbon capture solutions, and smart sensors. On the back of the orientation card, there will be a map of Riga with marked institution locations so that participants can easily plan their route.
